Traditional Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy, which is based on the philosophy that 14 meridians, energy channels, are running through the human body. Those meridians correspond to each organs of the body. It is based on the belief that life force energy flows through the body in channels called meridians.
The therapist places needles along the meridians or on “key” points, in order to to achieve tonification or sedation on particular areas and bring balance to the body, bringing back in this way the flow of life force energy and achieve wellness and health to the person. In addition, the use of moxas on the top of the needle enhances the therapeutic results, as it acts on the deeper levels of the body.
Moxa is made of mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris), a plant which has powerful healing properties. The heat combined with the powerful healing properties of mugwort gives moxibustion a proven advantage. It also has analgesic effects, because of one of Artemisia’s active components, borneol.
Moxibustion can be used to prevent diseases and maintain health as part of tonification treatments to help strengthen the organs and immune system. It warms the meridians and expel cold. It can be used to promote circulation over areas of chronic pain or muscle tension or inflammation. It is especially used for pain that is worse with exposure to cold or damp weather, as with some types of arthritis pain. When applied to acupuncture points that strengthen and lift the qi, moxibustion can boost the immune system and help with fatigue, digestive issues, and much more.
The combination of those powerful therapies in one session brings magnificent and immediate results to the person such as:
- Chronic tension – type headaches
- Chronic pain, such as neck pain
- Joint pain
- Tendonitis (eg. Carpal syndrome tunnel, Tennis elbow, Golf elbow)
- Premenstrual syndrome, Menstruation problems
- Bell’s Palsy
